How to Stay on the Cutting Edge of Social Media – Ep 99
Do you ever feel like you can’t keep up with all of the changes in social media? In this episode, we talk about how to stay on top of changes in social media and how they apply to your brand.
5 Ways to Keep Up with the Changing Social Media Landscape
-
Subscribe to RSS Feeds
RSS is a type of web feed which allows users and applications to access updates to websites in a standardized, computer-readable format. By subscribing to RSS feeds, you’re able to access content that helps you stay on top of what’s going on in your industry. Feedly and Inoreader are both tools that have a free option to use.
-
Create Alerts
Set up alerts using Google Alerts or Buzzsumo so you know when you’re mentioned in social media and track content. Google Alerts allows you to set up these searches as an RSS feed, then you can add it to to your favorite RSS reader, like Feedly or Inoreader. You may need to experiment with different words and search terms to narrow down the information you want to follow.
-
Read Industry News
It’s really important to stay on top of your industry news and you can share these resources on your social media outlets. Spend some time to find great resources and use a tool like Feedly or Inoreader to store it for you.
For social media marketing, these are some of our favorite sources:
- Social Media Examiner
- Social Media Today
- Agorapulse Blog
- Hootsuite Blog
- CoSchedule Blog
- HubSpot Blog
-
Join a Facebook Community of Your Peers and Talk to People
When you talk to people, you may discover information that you don’t have because news travels across social media pretty quickly. Look on the Facebook sidebar for groups that are suggested to you. You can also join our Facebook community where we share information and stay on the cutting edge of news and resources. Finding a good Facebook Group where you can connect with your peers is truly invaluable.
-
Be Curious about Everything
Take courses through a learning platform or even YouTube. Get a guide, someone you trust and feel comfortable with that’s going to help you along your path. Where YouTube will help you get started, often a course is needed to dive deeper. Practice what you preach. The more you try things and test, the better. This serves you well, so don’t be afraid to try new things- just do it! Look for problems to solve and create solutions to the problem. Be a problem hunter and solver.
